At a time of rapid growth in renewable energy sources, electrification of transport and heating, and increasing climate and security challenges, AI is opening up new opportunities for more resilient, efficient, and reliable operation of power systems.
PIES 2026 will showcase concrete solutions and real-world use cases of AI in practice – from grid operation optimisation, predictive maintenance, and cybersecurity to supporting the transition to a low-carbon society and the digitalisation of business processes in the energy sector. Special emphasis will be placed on company experiences and practical case studies from Slovenia and across Europe, demonstrating how these solutions work in real-world environments.
The conference is intended for engineers, researchers, decision-makers, and professionals from energy companies who want to understand how modern digital technologies are already being applied in practice and what opportunities they open up for the future development of energy systems.

At the PIES conference, our Maximo consultant Monika Čepin will also contribute with an expert presentation entitled “Applying Artificial Intelligence in Asset Management with IBM Maximo Application Suite.” The presentation will address how artificial intelligence is transforming the field of asset management and enabling organisations to move from traditional reactive approaches to advanced, data-driven processes, as well as predictive and prescriptive maintenance.
The IBM Maximo Application Suite (IBM MAS) platform will be presented, combining AI-infused analytics, IoT data, and automated processes to improve asset reliability, reduce downtime, and support more effective decision-making.
The presentation will also showcase use cases of AI-driven insights for asset condition monitoring, anomaly detection, failure prediction, and optimisation of maintenance activities. Special emphasis will be placed on functionalities such as Maximo Asset Performance Management (APM), Maximo Predict, and Maximo Assist, which enable organisations to make faster and better-informed decisions, reduce unplanned outages, extend asset lifecycles, and improve maintenance efficiency. The session will be supported by practical examples from various industries, illustrating how companies are using IBM MAS to improve asset reliability, reduce costs, increase productivity, and establish a long-term strategy for transitioning to predictive and prescriptive maintenance.
